Cecilie Lundgreen
Norway’s Cecilie Lundgreen and Natalie Wille from Sweden, both lead the way after opening with matching 67’s, 5 under par, after the first round of the Sölvesborg Ladies Open hosted by Fanny Sunesson.
Lundgreen, a two-time winner on the LET Access Series, relied on her length from the tee and an aggressive but smart game plan to play the challenging layout at Sölvesborg.
“I really like the golf course, it’s awesome. It’s really well prepared, well set up. It gives us some opportunities if you want to be brave and take a risk. The greens are superb, I like the fact that you can attack the pin and that the ball will sit there and they are nice and smooth. That’s always nice, it makes the golf course great.”
“I hit the fairways today, I think that’s essential here. If you hit the ball in the fairway you can score low. I made two eagles, which was great…it helps to make those. I just enjoyed it because on a golf course like this you can’t just hit it anywhere, you have to think your way through the golf course.”
Wille, who is currently ranked 17th on the LETAS order of merit, played a solid bogey free round with birdies on the 2nd, 8th, 9th, 16th and 17th holes.
“I started by making a putt from outside the green and then I just kept it in play all the time. I didn’t miss a lot of tee shots and I made a couple of long putts as well. Some good saves for par. Tomorrow it will be fun, I am going to go out and try and do the same thing.”
Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini finished 3rd in last week’s Larvik Ladies Open and continued her good form, with an opening 68, 4 under par, to sit in a tie for third place, alongside England’s Charlotte Thompson.
Sweden’s Jessica Ljungberg (69) is a further shot back at 3 under par and 5th position on her own.
The second round gets underway at 8.00am tomorrow morning.
