Isi Gabsa
Germany´s Isi Gabsa continued her fine form this season with an opening round of 66, 6 under par, to lead the CitizenGuard LETAS Trophy at Rinkven Golf Club, near Antwerp in Belgium.
The 20-year-old is already a two-time winner on the LET Access Series in 2015 and leads the LETAS rankings by just over 2700 points from fellow German Olivia Cowan, who has also won twice this season. Gabsa recorded a bogey-free round with matching nines of 33 shots and the German player was pleased with your first day performance.
“My irons were really good, I hit it really close and I started to putt very well so I made some good putts, especially on the 10th. It was a long putt and every one under 3 metres was good.”
Spanish amateur Luna Sobron trails Gabsa by one shot, scoring a bogey-free 67, 5 under par. Sobron collected a team bronze medal at the recent European Amateur Championships and will be heading to the upcoming Ricoh Women’s British Open, which takes place from the 29th July – 2nd August. The Spanish player was content with the way she has started the week.
“I made 5 birdies and no bogeys so that was good. I missed only two greens and made up and down. Tomorrow I will just enjoy it.”
Fellow Spanish amateur Natalia Escuriola and Finn Leena Makkonen both shot 68, 4 under par, to be tied for third. Fellow Finn Marika Voss, shot an opening par round of 72, which included an albatross two on the par five 4th hole.
