Germany’s Isi Gabsa won for the first time on the LET Access Series, with a three shot victory in the PGA Halmstad Ladies Open by Haverdal.
The 19-year-old had the best of starts at the Haverdals Golf Club, with five birdies in the first 9 holes to move to 8 under par. Gabsa faltered slightly at the start of the back nine with a double-bogey on the 10th, followed by a bogey on the 11th but held her nerve over the closing seven holes to finish at 5 under par and claim victory.
“It feels absolutely wonderful. It was a totally crazy start today, birdie after birdie after birdie. I’ve played pretty well all week, but today I holed a little more birdie putts and it was fun to have my mother as my caddy.”
“It is my first victory as a professional, I’m really happy right now,” said Gabsa, who was heading straight to London to play in the US Women’s Open qualifier at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club.
“On Monday, I play in the qualifier, so 36 holes in a day, then I fly to Norway again for the next event, so just to celebrate this now tonight on the flight, then I have to restart.”
Sweden’s Jessica Ljungberg closed with an even par 72, to finish at 2 under par and in 2nd place on her own.
England’s Kym Larratt and Spanish amateur Natalia Escuriola both shot one under par, 71, to finish the week in a tie for third place at even par, 216.
Swedes Isabella Ramsay (73), overnight leader Josephine Janson (77) and 16-year-old amateur Beatrice Wallin (76) finished in a tie for 5th place at one over par, 217.
The LET Access Series moves to Norway next week for the Drobak Ladies Open, which takes place from the 29 – 31 May at Drobak Golf Club.
