Gabsa and Wallin Lead at Haverdals

                                                                         Isi Gabsa

Germany’s Isi Gabsa and Swedish amateur Beatrice Wallin lead after the first round of the PGA Halmstad Ladies Open by Haverdal, after both scored an opening 70, 2 under par in cool, windy conditions.

Wallin started the day with a bogey on the 1st hole but birdies on the 5th, 6th and 15th holes enabled the 16-year-old amateur to move into the lead. The Swede played alongside fellow countrywoman and former LET winner Sofia Gronberg-Whitmore who is making a return to competitive golf. Gronberg-Whitmore opened with a 3 over par, 75, to be tied for 28th place.

Gabsa teeing off from the 10th tee, recorded nine straight pars, followed by a birdie on the 1st hole to move to one under par for her round.  The German player quickly gave the shot back to the course, bogeying the 2nd hole but an eagle three on the 6th hole catapulted Gabsa into a tie for the lead.

Five players, Finland’s Leena Makkonen, Kym Larratt from England, Ireland’s Tara Delaney and fellow Scots Michele Thomson and Jane Turner, are tied for 3rd place at 1 under par.

Play will commence at 8am for the second round of the PGA Halmstad Ladies Open by Haverdal.
