Boqvist leads in Spain

Sweden’s Lina Boqvist shot a second round 65, 5 under par, to take a three shot lead from Mia Piccio, Philippines, at the OCA Augas Santas International Ladies Open in Panton, Spain.

On a mild sunny day, Boqvist had the best of starts with five birdies on the front nine. The 23 year-old from Varnamo birdied the 11th before dropping her only shot of the day on the 15th hole to score the equal lowest round of the week. Boqvist, had her best result this season at the Solvesborg Ladies Open hosted by Fanny Sunesson, where she finished tied for 6th place. The Swede is currently lying 7th on the LETAS Order of Merit and will be looking for her first win on the LET Access Series tomorrow.

Piccio shot 68, 2 under par, showing a scorecard with three birdies and one bogey on the 2nd hole. She commented, “I hit it pretty well, like yesterday, all in all I am very happy putting myself in position, with 14 greens and more putts than yesterday’s round.”

Italy’s Vittoria Valvassori (66) and France’s Melodie Bourdy (68) complete the top three on the leaderboard, both tied at -4.

Spain’s Tania Elosegui sits in 5th position after a round of 71, one over par to total 2 under, eight shots off the lead. Carmen Alonso, Virginia Espejo, Maria Beautell, Judith Chaves Lopez and Patricia Lobato Moreno complete the list of Spanish players who made the cut, which fell at +6.

Germany’s Franziska Friedrich is currently the highest placed amateur on the leaderboard with a total of 145, 5 over par, followed by Colombia’s Anna Christina Kindgren, at +6.

Twenty-nine players, 27 professionals and two amateurs made the cut, which fell at six over par. The final round will commence at 8.00 tomorrow morning.
