HOW LETAS IS SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES ACROSS EUROPE

Communities

This year’s Sustainable Golf Week has a main theme centring around communities and how golf can both support and strengthen communities.

The Ladies European Tour (LET) and the LET Access Series (LETAS) has tournaments all around the globe and as a result, it is paramount for the Tour to leave a legacy to the communities it visits and serves.

Community is at the heart of a lot of initiatives which have happened on LETAS in 2024 whether it was junior clinics, getting women into golf or donating to charitable causes that impact the local community.

At the Get Golfing Women’s Golf Championship, more than 40 children from the Fun, Food, and Golf programme run by Get Golfing came to the tournament to learn from the professionals and enjoy the on-site activities.

The programme was developed for kids who need it most with golf becoming the platform where they can receive hot meals.

As always, the Rose Ladies Open remains the biggest champion of sustainability on LETAS.

Building on the success of last year’s initiatives, this year’s tournament deepened its focus on making a positive impact on both the environment and the local community.

A highlight of the tournament’s sustainability efforts is the return of the Trees for Birdies initiative.

But the tournament also hosted junior and female golf clinics, used local produce in all their catering and have a connection with the Hertfordshire Girl Guide group to create a ‘golf badge’.

Other initiatives on site included continuing eco-friendly practices throughout the event such as players receiving refillable water bottles and bamboo tees, while recycling stations were placed across the course to reduce waste and promote recycling.

Justin Rose said: “Sustainability is a key focus for all our projects moving forward. We were proud of the outcomes from last year’s initiatives, especially the success of the TREES for Birdies program.

“This year, we were excited to take it a step further and continue building on those foundations and helping the community.”

The Ladies European Tour (LET) and the LET Access Series (LETAS) is committed to recognising and promoting great sustainable work being done by the LET community as part of the Tour’s initiative LET Celebrating the Green presented by Dow in partnership with GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf.
