Denmark’s Nicole Broch Larsen took control of the Ladies Norwegian Challenge with an impressive second round of 6 under par 66, to lead by three shots from Northern Ireland’s Danielle McVeigh, going into the final day’s play.
The young Dane, who won the HLR Golf Academy Open in August, her first event as a professional, needed just 28 putts on the challenging Hauger Golf Course. That was the difference from the first round when Broch Larsen struggled with her distance control, accumulating 37 putts for her score of 73. She commented, “The greens are really tricky so you have to place the ball in the right areas.”
Broch Larsen, who held a handicap of plus five before turning professional, has practiced a lot with her coach David Bickmeiss over the last few weeks and is feeling comfortable going into the final day, “I have to play solid again tomorrow from tee to green and then hopefully make some putts again. I think I have to concentrate on my own game and not on the others, so I think I have to play under par again tomorrow. I hope so!”
McVeigh finished strongly with three birdies in her final seven holes to add a round of 70 to yesterday’s even par 72. The Kilkeel woman, with a season best of tied 9th at the Ocho Golf Ladies Open in May, will be looking for her first win on the LET Access Series tomorrow.
Denmark’s Monica Christiansen, Julie Tvede and Swede Josephine Janson are all tied for third place on one under par.
Thirty one professionals and two amateurs made the cut, which fell at 6 over par. The third round will start at 8.00am in the morning.
