Sweden’s Elin Andersson and Monica Christiansen from Denmark shot opening rounds of 70 to be tied for the lead at the Ladies Norwegian Challenge.
Christiansen, a winner earlier this year at the Dinard Ladies Open, played solidly on the challenging Hauger Golf Course, with nines of 37 and 33, an eagle on the par five 14th, followed by a birdie on the tough 15th hole, putting the Dane at the top of the leaderboard.
Andersson, currently lying 43rd on the LETAS Order of Merit, also completed her two nines in 37 and 33, finishing strongly with birdies on the 14th and 18th holes.
Seven players are tied in third position, at even par, including South African Laurette Maritz, a regular player on the Ladies European Tour, who has been visiting Norway to carry out some work for her charity, Eyes For Zimbabwe. Also on the level par mark, Norway’s Marita Engzelius, who played alongside Evian Championship winner and fellow Norwegian, Suzann Pettersen, in the Suzann Pro Challenge and finishing in second place.
Play will begin at 8.00 for the second round, with a cut to 30 professionals and ties for the final round on Friday.
