England’s Billie Jo-Smith has had an incredibly strong season so far with six top 10 finishes in seven starts.
Last week was no different. With rounds of 68, 72 and 72, Smith finished in solo fourth and now sits in a comfortable fifth on the LETAS Order of Merit, 30.63 points behind Denmark’s Natacha Host Husted.
“Last week was a very wet one but it was another solid week.
“It was tough conditions having to play half of my second round in constant heavy rain and then have a delay, so I’m pleased with how I managed to keep focussed through that.”
A new venue for LETAS, Gumbalde Golf Resort is a brand new and completely renovated 18-hole course designed by Pierre Fulke.
“Gumbalde is a really nice place, it is so peaceful here when the wind isn’t blowing.
“I think it is going to be a tricky week if the wind is anything like my practice round yesterday which I think it is due to be.
“I like the course, it’s quite different to what we are used to but I think it is going to be fun especially if we are required to play different kinds of shots in the wind.”
Smith, who has her eyes set on securing an LET card for 2025 by finishing in the top seven on the LETAS Order of Merit is keen for another solid week.
“The main goal for me is to stay patient out there because it’s the kind of course and conditions where things sometimes might not go as planned even if you think you’ve hit a good shot.
“I just need to keep doing what I’m doing, keeping it in play off the tee and positioning the ball well.”
Smith also joked: “Another goal this week is to be able to get a breakfast muffin because so far they’ve all been gone when I have tried, so they must be good.”
Smith tees it up at 8:30am alongside two French players, number seven ranked player Ariane Klotz and Charlotte Liautier.
