Germany’s Patricia Isabel Schmidt backed up yesterday’s phenomenal round of 67(-5) with a round of 70 (-2) to take victory on LETAS for her second time in Sweden.
Schmidt who started the shotgun round on hole one had a steady start with a first birdie dropping in on hole four.
On the back nine, Schmidt looked in control as she rolled in a birdie on the 11th to put her two shots in front.
Yet a bogey on the 12th set her back, with Italian amateur Alessia Nobilio hot on her heels Schmidt stayed calm to roll in one more birdie on 14th to finish 10-under-par.
“I really had to fight out there in the middle of the round. I saved myself so many times so that was great.
“I told myself I don’t have anything to lose on every shot. Just go for it, then I started to hit it closer again and I gave myself chances.
“It’s been amazing coming back to LETAS, my first home before the LET. I knew what I was expecting, and I felt confident because I got my card here. So, I knew I was capable of winning.”
Schmidt, who calls Sweden on of her favourite countries found the perfect way to relax and unwind after her rounds this week.
“Every day after the golf I have gone open water swimming. No matter if it was cold or warm. I just absolutely love it and it helps me relax.
“I don’t know how I will celebrate this win. Maybe go out for dinner with friends. I’ve got two more practice days here in Sweden before heading back. So keen to make the most of being in this beautiful country.”
Schmidt won the Big Green Egg Match play on LETAS in 2022, before going on to win the LET’s 2023 Belgian Open.
This season, the LET player has had her best finish in Sweden at the Dormy Open Helsingborg where Schmidt finished tied 10th. She currently sits 64th on the Order of Merit.
“This win helps my confidence. It’s always amazing to play in the final group. It shows me that I can cope under pressure.
“Now I focus on the Scottish. There is some stuff I need to work on. My goal this year is to finish top 20 on the LET, so now I’ve got some work to do.”
Italian amateur, Alessia Nobilio had a fantastic week to finish as the top amateur and runner-up on eight-under-par.
Meanwhile Isle of Man’s Ana Dawson finished in solo third on five-under-par.
A close friend of her’s Billie-Jo Smith finished solo fourth on four-under-par whilst seven players tied for fifth on three-under-par.
