LIGNELL LOOKING TO GO ONE BETTER IN SWEDEN

Lignell

Arriving to the LET Access Series (LETAS) back in June, having graduated from Ole Miss, Sweden’s Andrea Lignell has hit the ground running with two runner-up finishes.

Lignell led the MoreGolf Mastergolf Open for the first two rounds but was eventually caught and overtaken by Swedish colleague Kajsa Arwefjall.

Undeterred, last week at the Smorum Ladies Open Lignell fired a fantastic final round of 65 to climb the leaderboard and finish one-shot off the lead.

Now Lignell is hoping that this week could be the one to secure her first professional win.

“Last week was a big confidence boost so it feels great heading into this week.

“I putted well last week; I haven’t putted that well in as long as I can remember. So that was great to see that come together again.

“I bought a new putter a week ago and it was my first time using it, so it was great to see that I gained a lot of shots on the greens. Last week was solid.”

The 23-year-old is excited to play this week closer to home and is embracing the challenge of adapting to a new style of course compared to last week.

“I’ve played the course and it’s tricky. I have played here once before but I couldn’t remember much.

“It’s very different to last week, last week was open and firm and fast greens. This course is a lot narrower of the tee and very soft.

“I finished college in May, where I didn’t have the best season, or I wished for better so I’m happy with my game so far.”

Lignell, who reached a career-best of 18th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking, is enjoying life as a professional having transitioned in May.

“The best part, it may sound silly is just making my own money and being out here together with my friends who have just started this journey too.

“To travel around with them every week and making a career for myself is really special.”

Lignell has her eyes on achieving one goal, to sit inside the top seven at the end of the season and earn a coveted LET card.

The Swede currently sits in fifth position with 670 points so another strong finish this week would see her climb up the rankings.

“My goal this year is to finish top seven and get my LET card that way and skip Q School.

“I am looking at that Order of Merit because I think it’s motivating to see how much you can jump up on the Order of Merit just after one good week.”

Lignell tees it up at 9:00am local time tomorrow alongside Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall and Australia’s Kelsey Bennett.
