KIBSGAARD 2023 ORDER OF MERIT WINNER IS BACK IN TOWN

Last year, Denmark’s Sofie Kibsgaard took the LET Access Series (LETAS) by a storm, winning three titles, the Rookie of the Year award and the Order of Merit.

Having graduated onto the LET, Kibsgaard is back on LETAS this week to enjoy a home atmosphere, gain confidence and hopefully card three good rounds.

Speaking ahead of the week, Kibsgaard said: “This week is a good opportunity to get another tournament in and get back to it.

“It’s been so great to see some familiar faces out here and have the Danish crowd.”

Kibsgaard has had a mixed season over at the LET and had a fantastic start to her career there with a top 10 in the first event, the Magical Kenya Ladies Open.

Promisingly, her game seems to be trending with a tied 21st at the most recent event, the Dutch Ladies Open.

“My time so far on the LET has been fun, everyone has been really nice and welcoming. I feel like it’s more my home now, like LETAS was for me last year.

“I’ve gone to all these unbelievable places. Going to Kenya was fabulous it was my first event, and I finished top 10, so that was a great moment. It showed me that if I had my good game where I could finish.”

The Dane is no stranger to Smorum Golf Club and put in a solid performance last year to finish fourth after rounds of 69, 67 and 69.

“The course plays a little bit different from last year. It’s a bit firmer and I still must get used to it because we haven’t played firm courses this year.

“The weather seems great as well so I think it will be a good week and it presents a different challenge.

“My coach asked me the other day if I had any goals for this week and I think it’s important to have some. To know that I am playing here for the right reasons.

“My goal is to keep grinding it out because I’ve been struggling a bit in elements of my game. This is the week to get my confidence back.”

Kibsgaard tees off at 8:10am alongside fellow Dane Puk Lyng Thomsen and Sweden’s Andrea Lignell.
