Helen Briem is now the number one player on the World Amateur Golf Ranking®.
The German player steps up one position to replace England’s Lottie Woad, who drops to number three, with Spain’s Julia Lopez Ramirez taking over second spot.
Briem has excelled recently among the professionals, notching three consecutive victories on the LET Access Series Tour (LETAS) to lead the Order of Merit and the Rookie of the Year.
It was a historic win in Spain at the Santander Golf Tour-Avila for the 18-year-old, who became the first player in LETAS history to make three consecutive wins.
In the previous two weeks, Briem was victorious at the Montauban Ladies Open and the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge.
Coincidentally, all three events the German player won by one shot.
For the two-time Ping Junior Champion, Junior Ryder Cup Champion and 2023 R&A Girls Amateur champion, events in the last weeks have not always played into her hands despite the outward success.
For instance, falling one stroke short of the top-10 at the Amundi German Masters prevented Briem from an exemption into the next LET event and making her mark on a higher stage.
Likewise, the top-10 exemption did not apply at the Scandi mixed where she finished tied second. Nevertheless Briem has dusted herself off and focused on earning her LET card as quickly as possible on LETAS.
Additionally Briem won the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship in January to secure the top spot.
Now eyes will be on whether Briem will make the jump to professional status since she has conquered the amateur world.
LETAS next returns at the Smorum Ladies Open in Denmark on the 2nd of August.
In the meantime, follow all the action throughout the tournament on the LETAS social media channels – @letaccess on Instagram, X, and Ladies European Tour Access Series on Facebook – #RaiseOurGame #Access2Let #EnjoyTheGame.
