HOST HUSTED CLINCHES FIRST PROFESSIONAL WIN IN SWEDEN

After a week plagued with difficult conditions, Denmark’s Natacha Host Husted fired rounds of 70, 72 and 69 to secure her first professional win at the PGA Championship Gothenburg.

Finishing the only player to card a total score under par, Host Husted had a slow start with three bogeys in her first four holes.

Yet then the Ole Miss Graduate found her game to card five birdies, two on the front nine, three on the back to emerge the victor by two shots.

Speaking about what it meant to get her first win, Host Husted said: “I came off to a nervous start with three bogeys in the first four holes.

“So, I definitely had to dig deep out there mentally and fight my way back into the tournament.

“It was a mental game and even though the conditions weren’t as tough as the two previous days, it was not easy at all.

“At the end of the front nine and the start of the last nine I started making some putts and gained back some shots which gave me momentum, the lead and a little bit of breathing room coming down the stretch.”

The 22-year-old who is affiliated with Smorum Golf Club, the next host venue of a LETAS event, has had a strong start to her first full season on LETAS with two top 30 finishes.

Host Husted now sits fourth in the LETAS Order of Merit on 575 points.

It is so surreal honestly. I don’t even know how to put it into words.

“The start to my pro career this first month has not been the easiest and I have struggled to settle in mentally and overall find my game, so to have now entered the winners circle is so unbelievable.

“Honestly, I am just so so proud of how I handled this week and the conditions.”

Host Husted now has a few weeks off tournament golf to soak in the win.

“As of right now I don’t have any big celebrations in mind. Maybe I’ll get some ice cream with my family and some friends or even a glass of wine later today”

Germany’s Helen Tamy Kreuzer fired rounds of 72, 70 and 71 to finish runner-up on par.

English amateur Mimi Rhodes, France’s Ariane Klotz and Swedish amateur Kajsalotta Svarvar all finished third on three-over-par.

Norway’s Tina Mazarino finished solo sixth on four-over-par whilst England’s Lianna Bailey, Nicola Slater and Denmark’s Cecilie Finne-Ipsen rounded out the top-10 on five-over-par.

LETAS now has a three-week break before we head across the border to Denmark for the Smorum Ladies Open on the 2nd of August. An event local Host Husted will certainly be wanting to make a mark on.
