SMITH FEELING GOOD AHEAD OF MOREGOLF MASTERCARD OPEN

Billie-jo Smith

Hard work has paid off for Billie-jo Smith as she has had a great start to the 2024 LET Access Series (LETAS) season.

The Englishwoman has made four starts on Tour in 2024 and has had four top-10 finishes from those tournaments.

Smith sits third in the LETAS Order of Merit behind Germany’s Helen Briem and Sweden’s Anna Magnusson having accumulated 480.083 points.

Her best finish was at the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge where she was in a tie for third place at the end of the week.

Having picked up a win in the Rose Ladies Series this year, that result gave the 24-year-old a boost ahead of this stretch of the season and it has paid off thus far.

“I’ve had a great start to the season after struggling a bit last year with performance and injury,” she said.

“I spent most of winter in my garage as the weather in the UK has been awful so to see the hard work showing some results it’s really nice.

“I had a win at the Rose Series in England too in April so that has given me a bit of a boost.

“I’m feeling pretty good having finished within the top 10 over the last few events, coming close in Prague too, I felt like I was really up there.”

The MoreGolf Mastercard Open is taking place this week at Varbergs Golf Klubb from June 27-29.

Smith has played in Sweden on the Ladies European Tour (LET) before and believes the undulating greens will provide a challenge this week.

But she is also looking forward to playing on a golf course that has the feel of a British course.

She added: “I’m hitting the ball well especially with approach play and I think this is something that I’ll need to carry forward into this week with the greens being as slopey as they are.

“I’ve been to Sweden for a couple of LET events before and I really like it. Everyone is so friendly and especially this week, the course feels very much like a British kind of golf course.”

Smith will tee it up in round one at 8.55 am (local time) alongside France’s Charlotte Liautier and Zhen Bontan of the Netherlands.
