This week in Spain, German amateur Helen Briem is hoping to make tour history by becoming the first player to win three times consecutively.
After winning both the Montauban Ladies Open and the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge, Briem has made her mark as a player to watch.
“I’m very excited to come to Spain. I will play the European Team Championship in two weeks so this week I will be checking out Madrid while I’m there but I’m looking forward to the tournament in Spain first.”
At only 18-years-old, Briem has built quite the golf resume. For the two-time Ping Junior Champion, Junior Ryder Cup Champion and 2023 R&A Girls Amateur champion, events in the last few weeks have not played into her hands despite the outward success.
For instance, falling one stroke short of the top-10 at the Amundi German Masters prevented Briem from an exemption into the next LET event and making her mark on a higher stage. Likewise, the top-10 exemption did not apply at the Scandi mixed where she finished tied second.
“Despite it all, I’m having fun and enjoying my time on LETAS. The atmosphere is more familiar and it’s providing me with a great learning experiences for what’s coming next.”
After going home between events, Briem feels well rested and ready to take on her campaign for a third title, a feat that has never been done before.
“As I’ve said many times, I play to win. That’s the attitude for every tournament and it doesn’t change, no matter if it’s a special tournament or something.”
Briem begins her first round at 13:20 local time alongside two-time Santander Golf Tour winner, Maria Herraez Galvez and England’s Megan Dennis.
