KIBSGAARD NIELSEN CLAIMS THIRD VICTORY AND 2024 LET CARD IN ITALY

Denmark’s Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen stormed to a four-stroke victory at the Lombardia Ladies Open LETAS at Golf Club Varese. 

On a highly anticipated final day, the current Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year leader went on a birdie spree during the front nine rolling them in on holes three, six, seven and nine. 

At the turn, Kibsgaard Nielsen kept her cool to par all the back nine holes and secure a place in the history books as the first winner of the tournament. 

Speaking about her third win, Kibsgaard Nielsen said: “I feel calmer now, it was very overwhelming when I was on the putting green. I tried to enjoy the moment. 

“I maybe took a bit longer than I usually do but I knew I had been there before, and I know the feeling is something that I must enjoy and take in because it’s not going to happen often. 

“I feel very happy and proud that I finished well today and came up the leaderboard.

“It was fun out there today importantly; I’ve known them for years now and I think it’s cool to go out and be nice to each other. It was fun and competitive.”

With this win, Kibsgaard Nielsen not only secures 500.00 more points to the Order of Merit which she has led since the third tournament but has earnt triumphantly her 2024 LET card. 

“My goal this year was to get the card and to have it secure now feels amazing. I’ve worked hard, and I feel that as it was the end of the season, it was important for me to step up and not let go. 

“Coming into this tournament, I was going to give it my all because I want to win the Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year. Having that in my mind makes me go out and compete like I’ve done the whole year.

“I’m very excited and look forward to next year, it will be fun and I’m ready for the challenge.”

Spain’s Maria Herraez Galvez and Norway’s Dorthea Forbrigd finished second on four under par.

Overnight leader England’s Emily Price finished fourth on three under par after rounds of 70, 67 and 76. 

Four players finished tied fifth on one-under-par, England’s Gemma Clews and Amy Taylor, Ireland’s Lauren Walsh, and Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini whilst Australia’s Kelsey Bennett finished ninth on par. 

LETAS now has one week off before returning to Spain for the penultimate event of the season, the Calatayud Ladies Open at Gambito Golf Calatayud.
