Erika De Martini is happy to be back competing on home soil this week as she prepares to perform well at the Lombardia Ladies Open in front of friends and family.
It’s been a couple weeks off for the 23-year-old golfer but De Martini is excited to get things underway at Golf Club Varese next week.
De Martini is no stranger to the course having competed there in the past.
Speaking ahead of the week, De Martini said: “I’m super excited to play a LETAS tournament for the first time in Italy and near my home.
“Especially on a course where I’ve played several amateur championships.
“I’m very happy because for the first time, friends and relatives will be able to come and see me and i’m sure I will receive a lot of support from the public too.”
De Martini is hoping to use her previous knowledge of the course to her advantage and has tailored training to certain parts of her game.
“Whilst I hope to have a lot of fun out there. Next week my goals are to be precise with the irons because the golf course is a very technical course which requires a lot of precision and strategy.”
De Martini, whose home course is just a short 30km away from Golf Club Varese, is feeling positive heading into the tournament in Italy.
The Italian player heads into this event after a challenging season- her best finish coming in the first tournament of the year, Santander Golf Tour-Girona when she placed T33.
It’s been a season spent on the cut-line but De Martini is now happy with where her game is at as she chases a first professional victory in Italy.
“Obviously it would be wonderful to win my first tournament as a professional and above all to have the honour of doing it in my own country.
“My season isn’t going as expected but I’m working on some good feelings that I have to put into practice in the last three tournaments, starting with the event at Varese.”
