Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar leads by one on ten-under par at the Hauts de France Pas de Calais Golf Open.
The 29-year-old, who started on hole 10, began the day on six-under-par after a fantastic first round at Golf Saint-Omer.
Pogacar started off today steadier with a bogey on the fourteenth hole before bringing it back with an eagle on the par-5- 427 yards 18th hole.
At the turn, the Slovenian found her rhythm to roll in three birdies on hole six, seven and nine.
Speaking about the second day, Pogacar said: “Today was amazing, I had a little slower start as it was windy and felt different.
“I made a bogey on one of the par fives but then I just played each hole one by one, and I stuck it really close three times and made the birdie on the third attempt and the eagle was great.”
It’s been a successful season so far for the Slovenian who has had three top-10 finishes on tour including a second-place finish at the Montauban Ladies Open in June.
Pogacar has made all the cuts in tournaments she has played in so far and consequently sits in eighth position on the LETAS Order of Merit with 826.63 points, 158.6 points outside the crucial top six spots.
“There weren’t many nerves at the end when I knew I could lead again, I just really looked forward to some birdies because I had some opportunities already before the last four holes.”
Pogacar wants to keep the plan tomorrow simple.
The Slovenian simply stated: “Let’s go play golf.”
Two strokes behind Pogacar lies three golfers: two-time season winner Chiara Tamburlini, Australia’s Kristalle Blum, and Denmark’s Cecilie Finne-Ipsen.
Denmark’s Cecilie Finne-Ipsen shot the best round of the day to put herself in contention for the win tomorrow.
After making par yesterday, the 25-year-old came out strong today to card a flawless round of eight birdies to clinch a top spot on the leaderboard and an unofficial course record.
Speaking about the second round Finne-Ipsen said: “Today was my lowest round ever so that is cool!
“I had to hold a five-footer on the last to make a birdie, so it was great to get that one.
“I hit the ball well today and managed to get out of situations where I was a little bit in trouble. Then I just held a lot of putts. Everything just came together.”
Finne-Ipsen has had a strong season on tour with five top-20 finishes and a top-5 finish at the Trust Golf Link Series where she went into the final as overnight leader but finished tied third.
“Tomorrow I just want to go out there and have fun. I really enjoyed myself last time at Ramside when I went out as leader but this time, I want to try not to finish bogey, bogey double.
“I will go out there and do what I’ve done the last two days and see what happens.”
Germany’s Luisa Gudert and Spain’s Harang Lee sit in fifth place whilst Sweden’s Corinne Viden and Ellen Hutchinson Kay and South Africa’s Lejan Lewthwaite all sit tied for seventh on six-under-par.
The cut stood at -1 with 37 players making it to the final round tomorrow which starts at around 9am local time with a double tee start.
