Sweden’s Emma Thorngren is thrilled to be back on home soil again this week and at a course steeped in good memories.
In 2022, when Kungsbacka GolfKlubb was the site for the Goteborg Open, Thorngren came in outright second place and was the highest ranking professional on seven-under-par, four shots behind French amateur Nastasia Nadaud.
Now, Thorngren is looking forward to teeing it up at the first round tomorrow and using her experience to rebuild confidence in her game.
Speaking about her thoughts ahead of the week, Thorngren said: “I’m feeling super excited for this week, I love this place and with last week being cut short it’s going to be fun to get some tournament rounds in again.
Thorngren has had a strong season so far of four top-10 finishes including a second-place finish at the Santander Golf Tour-Girona and a top-8 finish at the LET’s Helsingborg Open in Sweden.
Now, the opportunity to play a course she knows well is buoying the 26-year-old Swede with confidence after failing to make the top-50 at the last two tournaments.
“Playing a course, I’ve played well at before calms me down more than puts pressure on me I would say,” Thorngren explained.
“I’ve been struggling on the course a little lately so coming back to a place where I know I have gone low before takes away some of the insecurities I’ve been feeling lately!”
After last week’s weather resulted in the Big Green Egg Open being reduced to 18 holes, Thorngren is now more ready than ever.
“My goal this week is to enjoy the week and try to play as strategic and easy as possible. Playing in Sweden is always (except last week) a pleasure, and the course is in an amazing shape so I think we will have a great week.”
Thorngren starts her PGA Championship Gothenburg campaign tomorrow at 12:10 alongside Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge winner, Marta Martin, and England’s Rochelle Morris.
