Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar leads by one shot after the first round of the LETAS Link Series at Ramside Golf Club.
The 29-year-old carded a flawless round with two birdies on the front nine and three on the back to head into day two as the leader on five-under-par.
Speaking about her impressive round, Pogacar said: “I’m feeling great, it was a bogey free round and I’m super happy about it because I’ve been trying to do that for the longest time.
“It was my caddy’s goal to begin with but he’s not here today, so he’ll still be very happy about it.”
Pogacar is now feeling confident heading into the second round as leader and is keen to stretch out her lead.
“My game plan tomorrow is pretty much the same, I like the setup today I preferred to last week. I made some good putts and I’m just going to stick to what I’ve been doing.”
The Slovenian has had an impressive season so far this year with three top 10-finishes including second place at the Montauban Ladies Open and third at the Vasteras Open by Elite Hotels.
“I’m just going to keep plugging along, those previous experiences were good for me, and I think I like the adrenaline that comes with leading.
“I’m going to try and pull it off this week.
“The course is very wet, so that changes a lot of things but other than that the course is set up well and it’s holding up well for us. I’m just hoping it’s not going to rain too much the next two days.”
Pogacar gets her second round underway at 9:20am alongside Muehlbauer, who is one shot behind and Spain’s Teresa Diez Moliner.
One shot behind Pogacar is England’s Hannah Screen and Austria’s Katharina Muehlbauer, who both shot four-under par.
Screen had a strong first round with five birdies and only one bogey on the 13th to blot her scorecard.
Speaking about her day Screen said: “I’m really happy with how it went today, I stuck to a similar game plan as last week.
“The course played a little bit different, but I just adjusted well out there.
“I plan to go again with the same plan tomorrow, maybe take a couple extra seconds over every shot, I will aim to make good putts and see where I end up.”
Screen put in a solid performance at last week’s tournament at Ramside.
However the 23-year-old had a tough final round to finish tied eighth. Now, Screen is more determined to do better this week.
“Last week gave me confidence,” Screen admitted, “I feel quite comfortable on this golf course, and I know that there’s plenty of birdies you can make out there and hit it in the right places.
“I’m more determined for the win this week. I didn’t have my best game on the last day on Friday, so I’m really set on just getting back out there and giving it a go again.”
Screen goes again tomorrow at 8:30 am tomorrow alongside Flumserberg Ladies Open winner Fie Olsen and the Netherland’s Zhen Bontan.
