Ireland’s Lauren Walsh is excited for her first LET Access Series (LETAS) event this week at Ramside Hall Golf Club for the Link Series.

The 22-year-old from Dublin only turned professional one month ago but last week made her debut appearance on the LPGA at the Dana Open, now she’s excited for two weeks closer to home in County Durham.

Speaking about her golfing career so far, she said: “I have just turned professional, and I’ve spent the last four years in the United States.

“I just graduated from Wake Forest, and we just won the National Championship, which was exciting.

“It was a nice way to kind of cap off my college career and my amateur career.

“I’ve been over there for four years, and I’ve been kind of back over, you know, in Ireland and around Europe throughout the summers.”

The Castlewarden star is a two-time Curtis Cup player and was sensational in the NCAA Division 1 finals at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale finishing tied seventh just four shots behind LPGA star Rose Zhang.

“I’m excited to compete in more professional tournaments. Dana was a lot of fun.

“There’s a lot of great players out on the LPGA Tour and it was nice to just be in that environment and kind of see how it all works out there.

“I want to get more professional experience now and figure out a couple things that I can improve on between now and then.”

Walsh was Ireland’s top-ranked amateur and ranked 48th in the world before she turned professional, though she did soar as high as 10th

“I’m excited for this week I’ve never been to this part of England. You know, it’s nice to be able to be here, like back-to-back weeks, you know, the same golf course.

“There’s a couple of familiar faces I saw on the draw, so it will be nice to kind of catch up with some girls I haven’t seen in a while so yeah, I’m excited.

“I don’t have a lot of expectations, I’m just looking forward to seeing the golf course today on the practice round and just looking to build some, you know, competition rounds and try and string a couple good scores together.”

Walsh gets her LETAS debut underway at 9:19am alongside England’s Lianna Bailey and France’s Chloe Salort.
