MARTA MARTIN HAPPY TO COMPETE ON HOME SOIL

Spain’s Marta Martin is excited to tee it up close to her home as the LET Access Series (LETAS) season continues with the Santander Golf Tour – Burgos from October 6–8.

Golf Lerma will welcome 96 players to compete for a purse of 40,000 EUR in the 54-hole tournament where the LET player from Madrid will make her first appearance on LETAS this year.

“This is my first LETAS of the year and I am always excited to compete. It is very special to play at home. I played this course many times when I was a junior and it brings many good memories when I come back to Lerma.

“I also think that the Santander Golf Tour is a true blessing as it is a solid women’s golf tour in Spain that allows us to compete all year. We are also very lucky to play some of the best golf courses in Spain.”

The 26-year-old is playing her third LET season which she kicked off with a T16 finish in the season opener in Kenya and placed T30 in the Estrella Damm Ladies Open in her home country in July.

“My 2022 LET season has been a rollercoaster. I’ve gone through some changes this year that I thought would bring results more quickly and that has been mentally hard.  I am trusting the process and I truly believe that with hard work my game will come together.”

Martin has good memories of Golf Lerma as she competed in the LETAS tournament and placed T5 back in 2020.

“I have really good memories from that event, it was one the first ones after Covid, and it felt great to be back on the golf course and play well. I remember making many birdies in the last round and making putts from everywhere.

“That week the Solheim Cup was announced to be hosted in Spain in 2023 and we had the trophy here, it was a special occasion to be able to hold the trophy. Now there is less than a year from it happening, crazy!”

In the first two rounds, the Spaniard will play with LETAS winner Lucrezia Colombotto Rosso from Italy and French amateur Louise Reau.

Many local stars including Noemi Jimenez Martin, Marta Sanz Barrio, Teresa Diez Moliner, and Maria Herraez Galvez will compete at Golf Lerma in the penultimate LETAS tournament alongside eight top 10 players from the current LETAS Order of Merit.

The first round goes underway on Thursday morning at 9:00 local time from the first and tenth tee.

After the completion of 36 holes, 45 professionals plus ties will make the cut.
