New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori is excited to tee it up in Sweden for the first time as she returns to compete on the LET Access Series (LETAS).
The Big Green Egg Swedish Stroke Play Championship, which takes place from August 10–13 at the Edenhof Course in GolfUppsala, will see 91 players compete in a 36-hole stroke play format.
At the end of the first two days, 32 players will qualify for the matchplay and those qualified players will then compete in the matchplay championship on Friday and Saturday, which will see a total of five nine-hole rounds with the semi-finals and finals being played on Saturday.
The four-day event will have a 40,000 EUR prize pool in play for the top 45 professionals and ties, however only the 32 players qualifying for the match play will be eligible to receive points in the LETAS Order of Merit.
Kobori, who came to Europe two months ago, is relishing not only the playing experience here but also the opportunity to travel.
She said: “The last couple of months have been super fun. I’m getting used to travelling in between tournaments and have been getting to know quite a few of the girls here.
“It’s always nice to turn up to a tournament and see friendly faces everywhere, and that’s one thing that I’ve really loved about playing on the Access Series this year.”
The Kiwi gained her LETAS membership with a stunning win in her first European start in Montauban and added another triumph three weeks later in a co-sanctioned event in Saint-Omer.
Following her success on LETAS, the 23-year-old received an invitation to the Big Green Egg Open, a Ladies European Tour (LET) event in the Netherlands where she placed outright sixth amongst elite players.
She explained: “I really enjoyed the Big Green Egg Open, I was excited when I found out that I was able to get an invite spot. The course was a great challenge, and I enjoyed playing there and competing in my first LET event since coming to Europe.”
After giving herself time to refresh for the remainder of the season, the second player on the LETAS Order of Merit cannot wait to tee it up in Sweden.
She added: “From what I’ve seen it looks like a spectacular venue, I’m definitely looking forward to another great event!”
Play goes underway on Wednesday morning at 8:00 local time from the first tee. In the stroke play qualifier, Kobori will play alongside England’s Gemma Clews and Australia’s Kristalle Blum, starting at 9:17am local time.
