Shortly before the end of the 2017 golfing season, there is good news for the Swiss golf scene with regard to the tournament calendar for 2018. The VP Bank Ladies Open, which since 2014 has been contested in the spring on the Gams-Werdenberg Golf Club and formed part of the LET Access Series schedule, will offer an attractive date for the fifth edition of the 2018 event. It will be played from Friday to Sunday, from the 4 – 6 May, 2018.
“We are very pleased to be able to play the two final rounds on the weekend again. The VP Bank Ladies Open offers numerous Swiss professionals and top women amateurs an opportunity to compete in front of their own audience in a professional event. We know that there is a great public interest and we are convinced that many golfers from all over Switzerland can be lured to Gams during the weekend,” said Mr. Guido Mätzler, the event promoter.
The importance of an attractive spectator backdrop and the fact that an athlete’s home can really strengthen an athlete is confirmed by tour professional Melanie Mätzler.
“Every athlete wants to play in front of their home crowd and show their skills. The more viewers follow us across the fairways and stand on the greenside, the more motivated the athletes are to showcase their very best golf,”
The 29-year-old from eastern Switzerland plays on the Ladies European Tour and the LET Access Series. Since the beginning of the tournament, Mätzler has been supporting the organisers with valuable input and since the beginning of 2017, she has also been fulfilling the role of the official tournament ambassador.
